Dehaaya, The One Who Went Upward, is a Campfire Companion for the Traveler. She is a member of the Navajo tribe who experienced the Long Walk. She is represented by The Empress.

Dehaaya frequently asks for hopeful stories, funny stories, and scary stories and is first encounterable outside of Shiprock, AZ. Her story is written by Demian Diné Yazhi', and she is voiced by Melba Martinez.

Background[ | ]

Dehaaya is a member of the Diné (Navajo) tribe and a survivor of the Long Walk of the Navajo, or The Long Walk to Hweeldi. She was forced to leave her land after U.S. soldiers burned their land and forced her parents to surrender. During the Long Walk, Dahaaya's baby sister died.

The Diné tribe were allowed to return to their homeland, which Dehaaya refers to as Diné Bikéyah, after some years of their stay at Hweeldi.

Dehaaya currently has one daughter.

Interactions with the Player[ | ]

Dehaaya can originally be found outside of Shiprock, AZ, and travels around in the Southwest. She mainly asks for funny, hopeful, and scary stories from the Traveler. Upon reaching Chapter 3 with her, she gives you a rough turquoise pebble that teleports you back to Shiprock.

True Form[ | ]

Her true form is a full sun hanging over four mountains. This ties back to Dehaaya's heritage as the moutains are white, blue, yellow and black; these colors are represent the four sacred mountains which border Diné land: Mt. Blanca (Tsisnaasjini'), Mt. Taylor (Tsoodzil), the San Francisco Peaks (Doko'oosliid), and Mt. Hesperus (Dibé Nitsaa)[1][2].
